A respectful Christmas quiz for kids in mixed classrooms

Indian classrooms bring together children from many faiths, and that is a strength. The questions below focus on facts and festive traditions that everyone can enjoy: the date, decorations, food, songs and kindness. There is one simple, factual line about why Christians celebrate Christmas, the birthday of Jesus, in the same way you might explain Diwali, Eid or Guru Nanak Jayanti. Let children share how their own families celebrate festivals, and keep the tone curious and kind.

Scoring table

Best team spirit in a round 1 bonus
Wrong answer 0 (no minus marks)

Tie-breakers

  • Count the stars: draw a quick group of stars on the board for 5 seconds, then hide them. Closest count wins.
  • Spell it: S-T-A-R, B-E-L-L or C-A-K-E.
  • Quick sum: “5 bells and 5 more bells?” (10)

Tips for an easy Christmas quiz for kids

  • Keep rounds short. Ten questions per round is plenty for under-eights.
  • Rotate the answerer so quiet children get a turn. Pass a paper star as the speaking token.
  • Use real objects for the youngest children: a bell, a star cut-out, a ribbon, a gift box.
  • Celebrate every team. End with applause for all and a small certificate for each child.
  • Link it to kindness. Ask each team to name one kind thing they will do in the holidays, like sharing a toy or helping at home.

Make quick quiz props at home or in class

You don’t need a projector or a printer to run this quiz. A few minutes with paper and crayons is enough:

  • Answer cards: give each team three squares of paper marked A, B and C for Round 2. Teams hold up a card together instead of shouting.
  • True and false paddles: stick a green paper circle (true) and a red one (false) on two ice-cream sticks for each team.
  • Picture cards: draw a tree, star, bell, candle and gift on separate sheets with a thick marker. Older children can draw them for you the day before, which becomes a mini art activity of its own.
  • Scoreboard: draw a Christmas tree for each team on the board and add a paper star or a chalk dot for every point, so little ones can see their score grow.
