Christmas Worksheets for Kids PDF: Printable Ideas by Age and Skill (Pre-K to Class 2)

Christmas worksheets for Pre-K to Class 2, organised by age and skill, with free DIY Christmas tree worksheets, a word list, maths problems with answers and printing tips.

December is the month when children are excited, school is winding down and everyone at home is looking for something calm to do between the cake, the carols and the holiday visits. A few Christmas worksheets are a simple answer: ten quiet minutes at the table, a little counting or tracing, and a page your child is proud to stick on the fridge.

Christmas Worksheets for Kids PDF – Colouring, Maths, Puzzles & Crafts, Ages 3–8 (30 Pages)
Christmas Worksheets for Kids PDF – Colouring, Maths, Puzzles & Crafts, Ages 3–8 (30 Pages)

This guide organises Christmas worksheets for kids by age (Pre-K and Nursery, LKG and UKG, Class 1 and 2) and by skill (colouring, counting and maths, tracing and writing, puzzles and craft). You will also find free content you can use straight away: five Christmas tree worksheets you can draw yourself, a ready word list, Christmas maths problems with answers and practical printing tips. If you would rather print and go, our Christmas worksheets for kids PDF is at the end.

Quick answer: The best Christmas worksheets for kids aged 3 to 8 are:

  • Pre-K and Nursery: big colouring pages, count-and-colour ornaments 1–5, trace-the-line paths, simple matching.
  • LKG and UKG: colour by number, counting 1–10, tracing Christmas words, dot-to-dot, mazes, shadow matching.
  • Class 1 and 2: adding and subtraction stories, word search, spot the difference, “My Letter to Santa” writing.
  • Craft: fold-and-colour Christmas card and a paper star ornament.
  • Keep it short: one or two pages a day, about five minutes each, works better than a big pile.

Why Christmas worksheets work so well in December

In most Indian schools, December is a mix of annual day practice, half-yearly exams for older siblings and a short winter break. Little children lose their routine quickly. A Christmas kids worksheet brings back a small, predictable “learning moment” without feeling like homework, because the theme itself is fun: stars, bells, gifts, plum cake and Santa Claus.

Christmas is celebrated on 25 December, and in India you see it everywhere, from star lanterns hanging outside homes in Goa and Kerala to plum cake in bakeries in every city. Children of all backgrounds enjoy the colours and the spirit of giving, so festive worksheets suit both homes and classrooms. If you are also planning crafts, party games or a story session, our guide to Christmas activities for preschoolers covers those in detail. This page focuses on worksheets.

Christmas worksheets by age

The same theme can be easy or challenging depending on the page. Use this table to choose pages that match your child, not just their class.

Age / class Good worksheet types What to look for
Pre-K / Nursery (3–4 years) Large colouring pages, count 1–5, trace-the-path lines, big-picture matching Thick outlines, few details, one task per page
LKG (4–5 years) Colour by number, count 1–10, dot-to-dot 1–10, simple mazes, match the shadow Clear numbers, wide paths, simple instructions you can read aloud
UKG (5–6 years) Tracing Christmas words, patterns, dot-to-dot 1–20, sums to 5 Four-line guides for writing, short word lists
Class 1 (6–7 years) Adding gifts to 10, subtraction stories, word search, spot the difference Short word problems, five or more differences
Class 2 (7–8 years) Letter to Santa, writing sentences, harder mazes, two-step maths Space to write, open-ended questions

Christmas worksheets for preschool and Pre-K

For three- and four-year-olds, the goal is enjoyment and pencil control, not correct answers. Good prek Christmas worksheets have one big picture (a bell, a star, a gift box) and one simple task: colour it, count the dots, or follow a dotted line from Santa to the house. Sit with your child, name the colours together and stop while they are still enjoying it.

LKG and UKG Christmas worksheets

This is the age where Christmas worksheets for preschool start to include real early learning: counting ornaments 1–10, colour by number, matching a snowman to its shadow and tracing short words like “star” and “bell”. If your child is in LKG and you want to try a non-festive sample first, our free 6-page LKG worksheets sample shows the style of our pages.

Class 1 and Class 2 Christmas worksheets

Older children enjoy a challenge. Give them word searches, spot-the-difference pages, maths stories about sharing cookies and a writing page such as “My Letter to Santa” or “Three things I am thankful for”. These pages quietly practise reading, spelling and number sense during the break.

Christmas worksheets by skill

Colouring

Christmas worksheets for kids colouring pages are the easiest place to start. Classic subjects include a Christmas tree, a star lantern, Santa Claus, gift boxes, a snowman, bells, and plum cake with cookies. Encourage children to colour inside the lines and to choose their own colours. There is no rule that a Christmas tree must be green.

Counting and maths

Count the ornaments, add the gifts, share the cookies. Festive objects make numbers feel real. For Nursery, count to 5; for LKG and UKG, count to 10; for Class 1 and 2, try addition and subtraction stories (see the free problems below).

Tracing and writing

Tracing Christmas words on four-line guides helps children with letter size and spacing. UKG children can trace “star” and “gift”; Class 1 children can write “Merry Christmas” on their own; Class 2 can write a short letter.

Puzzles

Patterns (star, bell, star, bell), dot-to-dot, mazes, match the shadow, spot the difference and word search all build concentration and problem-solving. Puzzles are often the pages children ask for again.

Craft

A fold-and-colour card or a paper star ornament turns a worksheet into something children can give away, which fits the Christmas idea of sharing beautifully.

Christmas tree worksheet: 5 DIY ideas you can draw yourself

You do not need a printer for these. A pencil, a ruler and a blank A4 sheet are enough. Each idea takes under five minutes to draw and is a genuinely free Christmas activity printable alternative.

1. Count-and-decorate tree (Nursery to UKG)

Draw a large triangle tree with a small rectangle trunk. Write a number at the top of the page, for example 6. Your child draws exactly that many round ornaments on the tree and colours them. Make three trees on one page with the numbers 3, 5 and 8 for a quick counting sheet. For Nursery, use numbers up to 5.

2. Tree shape tracing (Nursery and LKG)

Draw a tree using dotted lines only: a triangle, a trunk and a star on top. Your child traces over the dots with a crayon, then colours it in. Next, draw three smaller dotted triangles for extra tracing practice. This is great for teaching straight and slanting lines.

3. Colour-by-number tree (LKG to Class 1)

Draw a tree and divide it into about 12 sections with wavy lines across it. Write a number in each section. Add a legend at the bottom of the page:

  • 1 = green (tree)
  • 2 = red (ornaments)
  • 3 = yellow (star and lights)
  • 4 = brown (trunk)
  • 5 = blue (gift box)

Put a 3 in the star, a 4 in the trunk, mostly 1s in the tree, a few small 2 circles for ornaments and a 5 in a gift box under the tree.

4. Shapes tree (UKG and Class 1)

Draw a tree and decorate it with circles, squares, triangles and stars of different sizes. Ask: “Colour all the circles red, all the squares blue and all the triangles yellow. How many stars are there?” This combines shape recognition with counting.

5. Tree pattern and sums (Class 1 and 2)

Draw a tree with five rows of ornaments. In each row, write a small sum on each ornament, for example 2 + 3 or 7 − 4. Children solve the sum and colour the ornament red if the answer is 5 and green if it is any other number. Adjust the sums to your child’s level.

Christmas word list for word search and tracing

Use these words to make your own word search on squared paper, or write them in dotted letters for tracing. Start with the short words for UKG and add the longer ones for Class 1 and 2.

Easy (3–4 letters) Medium (5–6 letters) Harder (7+ letters)
star bells Christmas
gift Santa snowman
tree carol ornament
cake angel lantern
snow candle December
joy cookie reindeer
bow wreath presents
love sleigh celebrate

How to make a quick word search: draw an 8 by 8 grid. Write 6 words from the easy and medium columns across or down (avoid diagonals for younger children). Fill the empty squares with random letters. List the words below the grid so children can tick them off. For tracing, write each word in light dotted letters on four-line paper and leave a line underneath for the child to copy it once on their own. For more simple three-letter words to practise, see our CVC words list.

Simple Christmas maths problems (with answers)

Read these aloud to younger children and let them use buttons, beads or drawings to work them out. Class 1 and 2 children can read and solve them on their own.

Printing tips for Christmas worksheets

  • Print on A4 at 100% scale. Choose “actual size” rather than “fit to page” so tracing lines stay the right size.
  • Colouring pages in black and white. They only need black ink and save colour cartridges.
  • Use thicker paper for crafts. 100 to 120 gsm paper works better for the card and paper star; normal 70 to 80 gsm is fine for everything else.
  • Print one or two pages at a time. A whole pack on the table can overwhelm small children.
  • Reuse with a sheet protector. Slide a maze or tracing page into a plastic sleeve and use a whiteboard marker so it can be wiped and tried again.
  • No printer at home? Save the PDF on your phone and print at a local photocopy or stationery shop. Black-and-white A4 prints are usually very affordable.
  • Teachers: print one master copy, check it, then photocopy for your class.
