  • Nursery and LKG: 5 lines, about 20 seconds.
  • UKG and Class 1: 10 lines or a 1-minute speech.
  • Class 2 and above: a 2-minute speech with one story about Chacha Nehru.

Which Children’s Day speech should your child say?

Pick by confidence, not just class. A shy Class 1 child will do better with five clear lines than a long speech they rush through.

Speech Best for Length Practice needed
5-line speech Nursery, LKG about 20 seconds 2–3 days
10 lines on Children’s Day UKG, Class 1 about 40 seconds 3–4 days
1-minute speech Class 1, Class 2 about 60 seconds 4–5 days
2-minute speech Class 2 and older students about 2 minutes a full week
Teacher’s welcome speech Teachers, principals, hosts about 90 seconds read once or twice
Bal Diwas speech in Hindi UKG to Class 2 about 45 seconds 4–5 days

Speech 1: A 5-line speech for Nursery and LKG

For three- and four-year-olds, five lines is plenty. Each line is one idea, so your child can remember it as a little chain.

Good morning, everyone.
Today is Children’s Day.
It is the birthday of Chacha Nehru.
He loved children very much.
Happy Children’s Day!

Let your child hold up a drawing of a rose or a kite while speaking. Having something in their hands calms the wobbles.

Speech 2: 10 lines on Children’s Day

This is the classic “10 lines” format that many schools ask for in UKG and Class 1. It works as a short speech and as a written answer in a notebook.

  1. Children’s Day is celebrated in India every year on 14 November.
  2. It is also called Bal Diwas.
  3. 14 November is the birthday of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
  4. He was born in 1889.
  5. He was the first Prime Minister of India.
  6. He loved children, and children called him Chacha Nehru.
  7. He often wore a red rose on his coat.
  8. He believed children are the future of our country.
  9. On this day, schools hold games, songs and fun activities for children.
  10. I love Children’s Day because it is a day for all children.

If ten lines feel like too many, drop lines 4, 7 and 8 and you have a neat seven-line version.

Speech 3: A 1-minute speech on Children’s Day for Class 1

This short speech on Children’s Day has a clear beginning, middle and end. It takes about one minute at a gentle pace, which suits Class 1 and Class 2.

Good morning to our principal, teachers and all my dear friends. My name is ______, and I am in Class ___. Today I would like to say a few words about Children’s Day.

Every year on 14 November, we celebrate Children’s Day in India. This day is the birthday of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India. He was born in 1889. Nehru ji loved children very much, and children lovingly called him Chacha Nehru. He liked to wear a red rose on his coat.

Chacha Nehru believed that children should learn, play and grow happily, because children will build the future of India. So today, let us promise to study well, be kind to our friends and help each other.

Thank you to our teachers for making today so special. Happy Children’s Day!

Speech 4: A 2-minute Children’s Day speech in English for students

This longer Children’s Day speech in English suits Class 2 and older children who enjoy speaking. A small story makes it easier to remember.

Good morning to our respected principal, our teachers and my dear friends. Today is a special day for every child in India. It is Children’s Day, also called Bal Diwas, and I am happy to speak on this day.

We celebrate Children’s Day on 14 November because it is the birthday of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. He was born on 14 November 1889 and became the first Prime Minister of India when our country became independent in 1947. Even though he was very busy running the country, he always made time for children. He enjoyed talking to them, laughing with them and listening to their ideas. That is why children everywhere called him Chacha Nehru.

Nehru ji also loved books and learning. He wrote many letters to his daughter, Indira, about the world, nature and history. He wanted every child to go to school, ask questions and think for themselves. He believed that the children of today are the India of tomorrow.

So what can we do on Children’s Day? We can enjoy games and songs, of course. But we can also remember Chacha Nehru’s dream. We can read a new book, share our lunch with a friend, include a child who is sitting alone and say thank you to the people who look after us.

I would like to thank our teachers, who work so hard for us every day and who have made this celebration possible. Let us all be curious, kind and brave. Happy Children’s Day to all my friends!

Speech 5: A Children’s Day speech for teachers

On Children’s Day, teachers often host the assembly or perform for the children. Here is a warm welcome speech a teacher or principal can read in about 90 seconds.

Good morning, dear children. Today is your day, and all of us teachers are so happy to celebrate it with you.

Every year on 14 November, India celebrates Children’s Day on the birthday of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, our first Prime Minister. He was born in 1889, and he believed that children are the real strength of a nation. He wanted every child to have the chance to learn, play and dream. Children loved him so much that they called him Chacha Nehru.

Every day, you teach us something too: to laugh easily, to ask questions and to make friends in a minute. We are proud of each one of you, not only for your marks, but for the kind and curious people you are becoming.

Today there are no lessons to worry about. We have games, songs and a few surprises planned just for you. So enjoy every moment, cheer for your friends and look after each other. Happy Children’s Day, children!

Speech 6: A short Bal Diwas speech in Hindi

Many schools ask for a Bal Diwas speech in Hindi. This one uses everyday words that UKG to Class 2 children can say comfortably. The transliteration helps parents who read Hindi less often, and the meaning helps children understand what they are saying.

Hindi Transliteration Meaning
सभी को मेरा नमस्ते। Sabhi ko mera namaste. Namaste to everyone.
आज बाल दिवस है। Aaj Bal Diwas hai. Today is Children’s Day.
हम हर साल 14 नवंबर को बाल दिवस मनाते हैं। Hum har saal 14 November ko Bal Diwas manaate hain. Every year we celebrate Children’s Day on 14 November.
इस दिन पंडित जवाहरलाल नेहरू का जन्मदिन है। Is din Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru ka janmdin hai. This day is Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s birthday.
वे भारत के पहले प्रधानमंत्री थे। Ve Bharat ke pehle Pradhan Mantri the. He was India’s first Prime Minister.
नेहरू जी को बच्चों से बहुत प्यार था। Nehru ji ko bachchon se bahut pyaar tha. Nehru ji loved children very much.
बच्चे उन्हें प्यार से चाचा नेहरू कहते थे। Bachche unhen pyaar se Chacha Nehru kehte the. Children lovingly called him Chacha Nehru.
आइए, हम सब मन लगाकर पढ़ें और अच्छे बच्चे बनें। Aaiye, hum sab man lagaakar padhen aur achchhe bachche banen. Come, let us all study sincerely and become good children.
बाल दिवस की शुभकामनाएँ! धन्यवाद। Bal Diwas ki shubhkaamnaayen! Dhanyavaad. Happy Children’s Day! Thank you.

For a younger child, use only lines 1, 2, 4, 7 and 9. That gives a lovely five-line Hindi speech.

Tips for helping small children speak on stage

Many children know their lines perfectly at home and then freeze at school. That is normal, and a few small habits help.

  • Practise standing up. Saying lines on the sofa is different from saying them standing, with hands still. Practise the way they will perform.
  • Slow is good. Children rush when nervous. Ask them to take one breath at every full stop.
  • Use a cue card. For non-readers, draw tiny pictures for each line: a cake for “birthday”, a rose for Chacha Nehru, a heart for “loved children”.
  • Add one action. Holding up a paper rose on “red rose” or waving on “Happy Children’s Day” helps memory and looks sweet.
  • Plan for a blank. Agree that if they forget, they can simply smile and say “Happy Children’s Day!” That is a perfectly good ending.

A one-week practice plan before 14 November

Five to ten minutes a day is enough. Start about a week before the assembly so practice never feels stressful.

Day What to do Time
Day 1 Read the whole speech aloud together. Talk about who Chacha Nehru was. 10 min
Day 2 Learn the first half, one line at a time. Child repeats after you. 5 min
Day 3 Learn the second half. Draw picture cues for each line. 10 min
Day 4 Say the full speech standing up, using the cue card. 5 min
Day 5 Perform for one family member. Practise slowing down. 5 min
Day 6 Perform without the cue card. Add the action or prop. 5 min
Day 7 One calm run-through, lots of praise, early night. 5 min
