Children’s Day drawing easy ideas for Nursery and LKG

For three- to five-year-olds, think big round shapes and lots of colour. Let them do the colouring; you can help with the outline if needed.

1. Bunch of balloons

Draw five ovals of different sizes in the top half of the page. From the bottom of each oval, draw a small triangle knot and a wavy string. Bring all the strings together at the bottom and draw a small hand holding them. Colour each balloon a different colour.

2. A single red rose

Draw a small spiral for the centre. Around it, draw three or four U-shaped petals, each a bit bigger than the last. Add a long straight stem and two leaf shapes like almonds. Colour the petals red or pink and the stem and leaves green.

3. Smiling sun over a house

Draw a big circle in the top corner, add short lines around it for rays and give it two eyes and a smile. Below, draw a square with a triangle roof, a door and a window. Add a green line of grass along the bottom.

4. Diamond kite

Draw a diamond shape (a square standing on its corner). Draw a plus sign through it to split it into four parts. Add a wavy tail with three small bows. Colour opposite parts in the same colour.

5. Birthday cake

Draw a wide rectangle for the cake and a wavy line on top for cream. Add three candles with flames. Write “14” on the front. Colour in pink, brown or yellow, with dots for sprinkles.

Chacha Nehru drawing easy ideas for UKG and Class 1

6. Nehru cap with a rose

This is the easiest way to show Chacha Nehru without drawing a face. Draw a long, flat boat shape with a slight dip in the middle of the top line: this is the white Gandhi-style cap Nehru wore. Next to it, draw a red rose like idea 2. Write “Happy Children’s Day” underneath. Leave the cap white and outline it in black so it stands out.

7. Children holding hands

Draw four or five simple figures in a row: a circle head, a triangle dress or rectangle shirt, and stick arms and legs. Join the arms so the children hold hands. Give each child a different hair style and clothes colour, and add a rainbow above them.

8. A happy classroom

Draw a big rectangle for the blackboard and write “Happy Children’s Day” on it in white or yellow. Below, draw three small desks with round heads behind them. Hang a paper chain of triangles across the top.

9. Rainbow and kites

Draw a rainbow arch with seven curved bands (violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, red from inside to outside). Draw two or three small kites flying near it, with strings going down to children on the grass.

10. Gift box with balloons

Draw a square box with a smaller rectangle lid. Add a ribbon cross and a bow on top. Tie two balloons to the bow. Write a child’s name on a gift tag.

Children’s Day poster drawing ideas for Class 2

11. India map with children

Ask an adult to lightly draw or trace an outline of India. Inside, draw small smiling faces or children holding hands from north to south. Write “Every child, every state” at the top. Keep the map simple; it does not need every border.

12. My dream drawing

Children draw themselves as what they want to be when they grow up: a doctor, pilot, farmer, cricketer, scientist, artist or teacher. Add a thought bubble saying “When I grow up, I want to be…”. This idea is always a favourite with judges because it is personal.

13. Playground scene

Draw a slide (a ladder and a sloping line), a swing (two poles, a top bar and a seat on two strings) and children playing. Add a tree and the sun. Show one child sharing a ball.

14. Tree of friendship

Draw a big tree trunk with branches. Instead of leaves, draw handprints or hearts, and write a friend’s name in each one. Write “Friends grow together” at the bottom.

15. Slogan poster

Divide the sheet into a top band for the slogan and a bottom area for a picture. Write one slogan from the list below in big bubble letters, then draw a rose, balloons or children holding hands beneath it.

20 short Children’s Day poster slogans

  8. Every child deserves a school.
  9. Books, games and friends.

  11. Dream big, little one.
  12. A rose for Chacha Nehru.
  13. Every child counts.
  14. Laugh more, worry less.
  15. Childhood is a gift.
  16. Friends make every day brighter.
  17. Learn today, lead tomorrow.
  18. Be kind, be curious.
  19. Our dreams have wings.
  20. बाल दिवस की शुभकामनाएँ! (baal divas ki shubhkaamnaayen: best wishes for Children’s Day)

Colouring tips for a neat drawing:

  • Draw outlines lightly in pencil first, then go over them in black.
  • Colour in one direction, not scribbles, so the colour looks smooth.
  • Colour the big background last, using a light colour like sky blue or pale yellow.
  • Use three or four main colours, not twelve. Bright colours next to white look cheerful.
  • Write the slogan in capitals with a ruler line underneath so it stays straight.
  • Leave a small border all around. It makes any drawing look finished.

Children’s Day drawing competition plan for teachers

A drawing competition works best when children know the theme, time and rules in advance. Here is a simple plan you can adapt.

Age categories and topics

Category Classes Topic options Time Sheet
Little Stars Nursery–LKG Colour a balloon or rose outline 20 min A4 with outline
Bright Stars UKG–Class 1 Children’s Day celebration, my friends 30 min A4 plain
Super Stars Class 2 My dream, poster with slogan 40 min A3 plain

Rules to announce

  • Children bring their own crayons or pastels; the school gives the sheet.
  • Name and class on the back, not the front, so judging stays fair.
  • No tracing from phones or books for UKG and above.
  • Teachers can help the youngest children hold the sheet steady but not draw.

Judging table

Criterion What judges look for Marks
Theme Clearly about Children’s Day, childhood or kindness 5
Idea Own idea, something personal or surprising 5
Use of colour Bright, filled shapes, colours that suit each other 5
Neatness Clean outlines, page well used, border 3
Effort Finished on time, care taken 2
Total 20

For Nursery and LKG, skip ranking if you can and give every child a certificate. Display all drawings on a “Children’s Day Gallery” wall so parents can see them at pick-up time.

Frequently asked questions

What is the easiest Children’s Day drawing for kids?

A bunch of balloons or a single red rose is easiest. Both use simple shapes like ovals and U-shaped petals, and little children can finish and colour them in 15 to 20 minutes.

How do I draw Chacha Nehru easily?

Instead of a face, draw his white cap as a long flat boat shape with a slight dip on top, then add a red rose beside it and write Happy Children’s Day below.

What should I write on a Children’s Day poster?

Choose one short slogan such as Every child is a star, Little hands, big dreams or Smile, share and care, and write it in big capital letters at the top.

How long should a Children’s Day drawing competition be?

About 20 minutes for Nursery and LKG, 30 minutes for UKG and Class 1, and 40 minutes for Class 2 is enough time to draw and colour without rushing.

How are Children’s Day drawings judged?

A simple 20-mark table works well: theme 5, own idea 5, use of colour 5, neatness 3 and effort 2. For the youngest children, consider certificates for everyone instead of ranks.
