Jumbled Words in Hindi for Class 1 & 2: 60 Puzzles with Answers

60 graded jumbled-word puzzles in Devanagari with answers, from घर to खरगोश, plus jumbled sentences for Class 2 and classroom game tips.

Jumbled words are one of the quickest ways to make spelling feel like a game, yet when parents and teachers look for jumbled words in Hindi, they mostly find English puzzles. Hindi spelling has its own challenges, especially matras, so children need puzzles written in Devanagari and graded to what they have actually learnt.

This page gives you 60 graded Hindi jumbled-word puzzles with answers: two-letter words without matras, three-letter words without matras, then words with matras. There are also jumbled sentences for Class 2, tips for making your own puzzles and a simple way to run the game in a classroom.

Quick answer: To use jumbled words in Hindi with Class 1 and Class 2:

  • Start simple: two-letter words without matras (र / घ makes घर).
  • Then: three-letter words without matras (ल / ह / म makes महल).
  • Then matra words: jumble whole syllables, keeping each matra with its letter (ला / मा makes माला).
  • Class 2: unjumble short sentences and add the पूर्ण विराम (।).

Why jumbled words work for Hindi spelling

When a child unscrambles a word, they have to say each sound, try different orders and check which one makes sense. That is exactly the skill they need for reading and for imla. Jumbled words also build attention to detail: children notice that कमल and कलम use the same letters but mean different things.

The key is grading. A Class 1 child who has not learnt matras will be frustrated by किताब, but will happily solve घर and कमल. Use the levels below in order, and only move on when your child solves most puzzles in a level without help.

Level 1: Two-letter jumbled words in Hindi for Class 1 (15)

These words have no matras. With only two letters, the jumble is simply the word turned around, which makes it a perfect first step for UKG and early Class 1. For more words at this level, see our list of two-letter words in Hindi.

Level 2: Three-letter jumbled words (20)

Still no matras, but now there are several possible orders, so children must try them out loud. Two puzzles have two correct answers; praise any child who finds both. Our guide to three-letter words in Hindi has many more words for practice.

Level 3: Jumbled words with matras (25)

If your child needs to revise matras first, our guide to Hindi matra worksheets explains each one, and our aa ki matra words page is a good starting point.

How to use this Hindi worksheet on jumbled words

You can read the puzzles aloud, write them on a whiteboard or copy them into a notebook with the answer column covered. A few tips make it smoother:

  • Five at a time. Five puzzles a day is plenty. Finish with one your child can surely solve, so they end on a win.
  • Say every try aloud. “मरट? No. मटर? Yes!” Hearing the attempts is what builds reading.
  • Use letter cards. Write each letter or syllable on a small card so children can physically move them around.
  • Give a picture clue. For younger children, draw or show the object (a tap for नल, peas for मटर).
  • Write the answer. After solving, children write the word on शिरोरेखा lines. This turns a game into spelling practice.

Running jumbled words in the classroom

Teachers can turn these puzzles into a quick team game:

  1. Divide the class into teams of four or five.
  2. Show one jumbled word on the board or on large cards.
  3. Each team writes its answer on a slate and holds it up when the teacher says “दिखाओ!”
  4. Every correct, neatly written answer earns a point; a correct शिरोरेखा earns a bonus point.
  5. For puzzles with two answers (16 and 20), give an extra point to teams that find both.

Keep each round to ten words, and rotate who writes in each team so every child gets a turn.

Make your own jumbled words

Once children enjoy the game, make puzzles from their spelling list or their imla words. Choose words they have already read, jumble the letters (or syllables, for matra words), and check that the jumble does not accidentally spell another real word, unless you want a two-answer puzzle. Our Hindi dictation lists for Class 1 are a ready source of graded words.

Frequently asked questions

What are jumbled words in Hindi?

Jumbled words are puzzles where the letters or syllables of a Hindi word are mixed up, such as र / घ, and the child rearranges them to make a real word, घर. They build spelling, reading and attention to detail.

Are jumbled words suitable for Class 1?

Yes. Class 1 children can start with two-letter and three-letter words without matras, such as घर, नल, कमल and मटर. Move to matra words once your child knows the matras well.

How do you jumble Hindi words that have matras?

Keep each matra attached to its letter and jumble whole syllables. For example, माला becomes ला / मा and किताब becomes ब / ता / कि. Splitting a matra from its letter confuses young children.

Where are the answers for these Hindi jumbled words?

The answer for every puzzle is in the third column of each table on this page, with the English meaning beside it. Cover the answer column with a strip of paper before your child starts.

What should Class 2 children do after jumbled words?

Class 2 children can move on to jumbled sentences, then write their own sentences using the words they unjumbled. Short weekly dictation of the same words helps the spellings stick.
